Shrewsbury Winter Festival | In Conversation with Sarah Buckingham
In Conversation with Teacups & Thyme Name:  Sarah Buckingham Occupation: Artist, illustrator and Children’s Nurse.  In three words describe Teacups & Thyme:  Eat, paint, dream     How did your business start? I have always had a paint brush, pencil or pen about my person. I find interest in humdrum, the way in which we piece our lives together. I like the bright colour of bottles, the brisk yellow of lemons, the creamy pastels of a cake. I wanted to document my findings as I see them and so I sketched this and that. It all started with a set of teacups that I described in ink and watercolour, a cup for each member of a family. Then a personal request for a painting and a...

Wild Shropshire | James Sherwin
I did a blog a while ago about "Wild Shropshire" - the name I've given to my pop up restaurants. In that blog I talked about the importance of foraging to the “Wild Shropshire” concept and how the concept developed to what it is today.   I thought with this blog I could talk more about what the concept actually means and the various strands to the concept that aren't obvious when eating. Is the name just a convenient name that buys into the people of Shropshire's pride for their county? Or does it have substance, a political agenda perhaps?   A few years ago a very clever man (Ian Mackaye of obscure noughties punk band Fugazi) stated, "never-mind what’s been selling, it’s what you’re buying." This is...

Halloween Pumpkin Recipe
Halloween is here! Its a time for roaring fires, trick or treating and of course carving pumpkins. I enjoy nothing more than taking time with my family to carve pumpkins. Scary witches on broomsticks, scary faces ( and this year) Peppa Pig! But what I enjoy the most out of these wonderful times is what we do AFTER the pumpkin has been carved. Most of us end up with bowls full of the oozing pumpkin flesh, mixed with slimy seeds that as a kid, I adored quishing my hands through, perhaps it reminded me of wizards potion, or the brains of Frankenstein. But as a grown women and an avid homecoo,k I see nothing more than a delicious supper & tasty snacks. Cooking up these delicious ripe pumpkin inards is simply as easy as throwing them on the compost heap...

Debbie Williams | My Enamelling Process
My Enamelling Process, by Debbie Williams Far more technical than than other crafts I have enjoyed, for me, enamelling falls within the realms of science. I think this because there is an awful lot of cause and effect involved. I am referring to the use of heat and water, the effects of transparent and opaque enamels and the 'rules' I have to be aware of. To help me concentrate on the process I usually listen to Ed Sheeran. At least I only become distracted by alternate tracks. I work in a fairly small space as my kiln is a small jewellery makers kiln, the same as those used for   Precious metal clay firing. Another technical craft I am trying to master. Even so, the small kiln is scarily hot. I work at 800 degrees. Heat gloves are a must. I also wear glasses to protect my...

Hello Autumn-Scarves, Umbrellas and Autumn Salads
Hello Autumn!   That’s it, it has gone, in the blink of an eye, summer has gone before our eyes. No, I didn’t notice it either… The nights begin to draw in, the temperature drops and we reach for our umbrellas, hats and scarves. The TV always gets better (Yes, I am an unashamed Strictly Fan) and we seem to want to go out less and less.  But this does not mean that your BBQ needs to be put out and your salad forks need to placed back in their home to dust over until May next year. This is a time to use those rainy nights in to celebrate what is great locally! Now it is time to embrace the dull, wet, nights and keep the sizzle and sunshine in your kitchens! I must admit, I am a big fan of the Autumnal months. The produce that springs...

MOYDENS HANDMADE CHEESE | TASTE, TRADITION, FAMILY VALUES
As consumers today, we are demanding more from our producers, we are becoming more educated on where our produce comes from and what it is all about. We care for traditional values, quality produce and locality. Cheese-making truly is an ancient art-form and Moyden’s Hand made cheese is a Shropshire company that prides itself on its traditional methods, family values and of course its delicious taste. When you think Shropshire Cheese it is hard not to mention Moyden’s as one of the leading brands in the county and beyond, and it’s hard to believe that this fantastic business was the brainchild of Martin Moyden, in 2005. It was stories of farming and tales of ancient cheese-making from Martin’s grandmother that sparked the idea, tales that inspired and gives Moyden’s the...

From our Chef: The Radish
The Radish      So why is my first post for Buy-From Shropshire starting with a picture of radish before I’ve even introduced myself……we’ll get to that soon, however, so let's start with a few pleasantries.   I’m James Sherwin, owner/head chef etc of the Wild Shropshire pop up restaurant/project. The aim of Wild Shropshire is to explore the flavours (often forgotten in today's world) abundant within our beautiful county.   So what's the significance of the radish? Most chefs have two dreams: the first is to open their own restaurant, producing the food they want and making more money than they can spend; The other is to be able to grow and forage all their own ingredients. The latter guarantees quality and...
