Looking back at Ludlow Food Festival: Tipsy Tart

At this year’s Ludlow Food Festival, a certain tilting-bottled brand caught our attention.

Catching up with Elizabeth Grinker from the Tipsy Tart, Buy-From Shropshire heard all about the place of Ludlow at the heart of the brand, and how collaboration with other local food and drink producers is helping to expand the business. Elizabeth, who lives in Ludlow, describes the food festival as her “favourite”.

“I love it, I really do,” she tells us. “We are very lucky that we have the best festivals in Shropshire.”

The Tipsy Tart started around five years ago when Elizabeth made homemade liquors for friends and family at Christmas to save money. “Everybody loved them; they kept on asking for more so that’s how it started.”

She added, “They encouraged me then to actually start selling them… and now I go all over the country.”

In addition to their popular liqueurs, the Tipsy Tart have recently collaborated with other local producers, Hobsons and BigHorn Biltong, to produce a beer and biltong package which is coming out soon. “Beer and biltong… go so well together,” she says. “It’s so exciting.”

Selling her products on the Ludlow market every Saturday, Elizabeth emphasises the importance of buying locally.
“Local artisans are so passionate about what they do,” she says. “It’s just so important to keep it local, to support local, to buy from local - it’s very important.”
