Stephanie Gaston-The Journey of Textiles

Ever wondered the inspiration behind some of Shropshire's best Artists & Creatives? Look no further for your weekday #inspiration. We caught up with the brilliant Stephanie Gaston of 'Stephanie's Creations' to get a quick insight into her world and the journey of her textiles!

The main source of textiles for my rag rugs has been charity shops and when I needed to make large items they were brilliant. I have now built up a large stash (an understatement) of fabrics to go to whenever inspiration strikes. I have been very lucky to meet some lovely people, also textile artists, who very generously save pieces of fabric both large and small for me to use in my work.

I have been given beautiful cottons and curtain fabrics from local dressmaker Catherine Demet www.lovedressmaking.co.uk,  upholstery fabrics from handbag designer Sandra Harris www.buttonburycrafts.co,uk,  Harris Tweed from local craftswoman Clare Unwin www.creative-upcycling.co.uk and cashmere from local businesswoman Kate Holbrook www.turtle-doves.co.uk. These fabrics I would not have bought myself for rag rugging, but are a real treat to work with and bring a new depth to my work.

Here are examples of some of the things I have done with the lovely textiles, fabric twine with even the smallest pieces of cottons, which can then be knit as yarn.
