How did your business start?

I have always had a paint brush, pencil or pen about my person. I find interest in humdrum, the way in which we piece our lives together. I like the bright colour of bottles, the brisk yellow of lemons, the creamy pastels of a cake. I wanted to document my findings as I see them and so I sketched this and that. It all started with a set of teacups that I described in ink and watercolour, a cup for each member of a family. Then a personal request for a painting and a series of sketches as I prepared and drank a G&T… and a feeling of complete happiness. I decided then that perhaps I could depict ordinary life as i saw it, making blueberry pancakes on a Saturday morning, the crisp bubbles of champagne and bitters in a tall glass, the warm scented bubble of mulled wine in a pan. And so Teacups and Thyme (or rather the lack of it) was born!

Have you got a favourite Print/design? Why?

For me it has always been Gin & Tonic and that ‘end of the week’ feeling. Lots of ice, sharp tang of lemon against the fresh botanicals of a good gin...oh, sorry were we talking about a print???

Yes, the G&T print is my favourite, for all the reasons already stated!! (Remember, I research ALL my pieces!)

What do you love most about running your creative business?

A lovely crisp sheet of watercolour paper, a new idea and research to be done.

What will people find when they come to see you at the Shrewsbury Winter Festival?

A lot of boozy pictures, twinkling lights and a smiling face - I hope!!
