 In Conversation with Evanji

Name: Denise McGowan

Occupation:  Entrepreneur! Sugaring Practitioner, Holistic Therapy and Beauty Trainer, Training School owner. Textile and glass artist. Workshop facilitator. Mentor. Mother. Cosmetic manufacturer and formulator. Published writer, Direct seller!

In three words describe your work: Creative, beneficial, humbling

How did your business start? Originally started who teaching textiles and produced costumes, wedding dresses, evening dresses. Left teaching in 1998 and moved eventually to Market Drayton. Started the Craft Box to teach adults craft activities and host Childrens days. Fell into learning to sugar and the holistic/beauty journey began. Manufacturing sugar paste came next and then adding other treatment ranges. The workshop is now in the garden and I teach mainly glass there around my clients and other fab things!

Evanji Glass Workshop

Have you got a favourite product? Why? Glass!! Molten glass acts similar to the sugarpaste! The colours are so vibrant and its fabulous working with someone who says they arent crafty or creative and they go home with a fabulous piece of work wanting to come again!!

With all that has been achieved in your career so far, what are you most proud of? This is very hard to answer but I think it would have to be being awarded the Spirit of Arbonne Award which is peer nominated  and given to only 1 person each year. It was for work carried out within the community and paying forward opportunities.

What do you love most about running your business? The freedom, the diversity, the people!

What will people find when they come to see you at the Shrewsbury Winter Festival? They will find a huge array of bright glass, handcrafted with love (sometimes blood, sweat and tears!!). They will be able to place orders for larger projects, discuss windows, doors, lamps and more. Lots for sale at affordable pricesand of course they can find out how to learn a new skill!

What are you looking forward to most about the Shrewsbury Winter Festival? Festive fun and meeting people.

What are your plans for Christmas? Before Christmas we have few days to wind down in Cornwall with family..and a cheeky bit of training for a lady while Im there! Time with parents and girls Christmas Day and Boxing day before everyone heads off to spend New Year elsewhere. Rick is on duty (Firefighter) over Christmas and New Year so we will be very much based at home.
