HELP YOUR BODY – HELP THE PLANET – JOIN THE TREND

Ludlow Food Festival Blog Series:

HELP YOUR BODY – HELP THE PLANET – JOIN THE TREND

So – let’s talk about food and drink.  And do you know what the big food and drink trends are for 2017?  Buying fresh, eating raw, eating yourself to wellness AND buying local (so good for that all important freshness and also so good for the environment).

FRESH GRAPES

We all know that colourful, fresh vegetables of brim full of antioxidents don’t we?  Now look out for vegetables we may never have seen before.  Purple will be the colour of the year we think…. purple cauliflower, purple sweet potatoes, purple asparagus, purple corn.

Listen to food blogger, Claire Brumby, who foresees

….. a greater demand from consumers of transparency in their food, which runs through all aspects from the ingredients, to production, supply chain and the actual brand.  Consumers are ‘falling in love’ more with smaller brands, and love their ability to better understand their needs and values, so trends in food run deeper than the food and ingredients, but through to the core of the producer, and how consumers perceive them.

I predict that botanical, and non-alcoholic drinks, will be an area where further growth will also come, and ‘mock-tails’ becoming more popular.  I have a long-standing interest in functional foods, and think that these will play a bigger role in wellness drinks with ingredients such as Kava and Turmeric becoming heroes.’

Claire could be talking here about our collective buy-local concept.  We also see a real move to consumers becoming increasingly concerned about the environment and thinking long and hard about how natural their food is and the food miles it’s travelled.  The want to buy from this country, their own region, their own county, even their own town if they can. That’s the strength of the Ludlow Food Festival message and its ethos in championing local producers and providing opportunities to meet this consumer demand.

Buy-From Shropshire can also offer consumers a wonderful range of locally produced food and drink from cheeses, to chocolate, to beer, to spice mixes, breads and local meats.  And the wellness agenda? Oh yes.  Just take a look at Bennet & Dunn’s locally produced rapeseed oil, now being used by many of the top restaurants in the country.  Try SY1 Protein’s Goji Berry Energy Bars, their Coconut Covered Zesty Lime Raw Energy Bars or any of their other delicious products which use only natural ingredients.  And what of the ‘botanical and non-alcoholic drink’ trend? Story Drinks, lightly sparkling, natural fruit presses which are truly delicious.

Buy natural, buy healthy, buy quality and buy first class British made products …buy local.
