Hobsons brewery celebrated 25 years last year, so we had a chat with them all about Ludlow Food Festival as it celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.

Nick Davis, founder of Hobsons, says about this achievement “Twenty-five continual years just shows how Ludlow Food Festival was so pioneering, yet it has kept up with the times as well”. In commemoration of the occasion Hobsons will be offering their limited-edition Hobsons 25 beer with a Ludlow 25th anniversary memento on each bottle.

We love how entrepreneurial Shropshire is as a county. Nick believes that small-scale producers in Shropshire are very forward thinking and progressive. Hobsons are based in Cleobury Mortimer and ensure that their ethos for everything local has remained at the heart of the brewery. Hobsons has approximately 2000 tonnes of barley grown across Shropshire and Herefordshire. Hobsons brewery and Oldfields Cider both sell products to Russia now – putting Shropshire well and truly on the global map!

Hobsons have been huge, valued supporters of Ludlow Food Festival for years. Nick believes that Ludlow has found the perfect balance of regulars who come back every year and new faces. He says, “it’s a great place to meet new people and try new foods”.
The ultimate vision for Hobsons is to become the countries leading sustainable brewery. They have helped Ludlow Food Festival enormously by creating and sponsoring its popular reusable cup.

Hobsons Brewery Tap reopened on Wednesday 21st August, where you can enjoy a variety of food and all their beers! They run foodie nights there each month and often the chef or producer is someone that they met at Ludlow Food Festival!

Nick loves Shropshire – he loves how wonderful the scenery, landscape and locals are, balanced with how unknown it is to many others.

Oldfields launched their new berry cider in March 2019 and it is already award winning. It has also won the Silver award in the Ludlow Food Festival Best New Product category! We can see why – it’s delicious! Nick puts its fabulous flavour in part down to it containing real blackberry juice.

We can’t wait for Ludlow Food Festival and for Hobsons to be a key part of the Buy-From Shropshire run again. They’ll be there with their awesome airstream bar (aka Sylvia) plus a bottle stand. Cheers!
